Before we define what a long tail keyword actually is, we must understand what a “broad” keyword is. A broad keyword is a 1 or 2 word search term used by someone who is making use of a search engine to find information on some subject.
Ex #1: User types “Dogs” into the search engine.
Ex #2: User types “Dog training” into the search engine.
For the purposes of internet marketing, if you are trying to market a Dog Training book, you do NOT want to be marketing it to users searching for these very general 1 or 2 word phrases. The reason being people who are searching so generally are not likely in ‘buy mode’, they are more likely in ‘information finding mode’.
HOWEVER,
A long tail keyword is a more specific search phrase of 3 or more words.
Ex #1: User types “Dog training guide”
Ex #2: User types “How to train my pug not to bite”
These searches are much more targeted and the user who has entered these searches in is someone who is much more likely to purchase something as they are looking for a very ’specific’ solution.
Long tail keywords will also have a lot less competing webpages which in many cases will allow you to easily take the first page in Google searches.
Find the right long tail keywords to work with and you can not only help people find what they are looking for, but also create and develop a passive online income stream which will pay you even while you sleep. Using long tail keywords is not only very easy, but also VERY profitable.
