Josh Jarboe, a highly-touted freshman wide receiver, was dismissed from the Oklahoma football team Friday after he released an Internet rap video.
Jarboe was featured freestyling on the video, talking about guns and used the words "b*tch" and "n*gg@" during his rap. The 74-second video laced with profanity circulated the Internet.
Sooners head coach Bob Stoops announced the decision in a press release on Friday. "We are disappointed in this outcome, but our complete review and this final decision is in the best interest of our program," Stoops said in a statement.
"We outlined for Josh the expectations we had for him when he arrived and, unfortunately, those expectations have not been met," continued Stoops. "Josh needs to learn from this experience. We hope he can move forward in a positive manner."
In March, Jarboe was arrested on assault charges after an assistant principal at Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Ga., told a school police officer he saw Jarboe grab a gun from a car. Jarboe was expelled from school, but completed his diploma online.
Jarboe pleaded guilty in late May in Georgia to charges of bringing a gun to school and carrying a pistol without a license. Jarboe was sentenced to two years of probation and 80 hours of community service after having his charges reduced to a misdemeanor due to being a first-time offender.
Jarboe was ranked the 10th best receiver in the class of 2008 and ranked No. 69 overall by Rivals.com. He was considered one of the premier prospects in the Sooners recruiting class, which was ranked No. 6 by Rivals.
